Bread Tips

Fresh baked bread is the best, there's no denying that, and our bread is always baked on the day it is delivered to your door. However, not everyone can eat multiple entire loaves of bread on the same day. Fortunately, sourdough bread keeps brilliantly, but to avoid food waste here are some tips on how to store, re-crisp, and freeze your bread.

Store

If you're planning to eat your bread over a few days, you can keep it out. If you have cut into the loaf, protect the cut side to avoid the moisture escaping the bread either by covering it with plastic or beeswax wrap, or putting the loaf in a paper or plastic bag.

Re-crisp

You may notice that the crust gets more chewy, less crispy over time. If you want to re-crisp the loaf, here are the steps you can follow:

  • Put a baking sheet in your oven and preheat it to 400F
  • Lightly wet the crust with water, avoiding adding water to cut sides. For this a spray bottle of water works perfectly, or if the loaf is intact you can run it under your water faucet for a second or two to get the crust entirely wet without it soaking through.
  • Place the bread on a piece of parchment paper, or a silicon baking mat and carefully place on the baking sheet in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until it's crisp enough to your liking.
    • If you have a cut loaf and want to avoid moisture escaping, cover the cut side with some aluminum foil.
  • Remove from the oven and enjoy once it's cool enough to handle

This is also how you can easily get the smell of fresh baked bread filling your kitchen!

Freeze

Your bread can be frozen whole, cut, or entirely sliced. To avoid freezer burn, place bread in a freezer bag or wrap in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. Then place in your freezer!

To defrost, take the loaf out of the freezer and place it on your kitchen counter for a couple hours until it's relatively defrosted. Once it's defrosted, follow the steps to Re-crisp your bread to get that crispy crust, fresh baked taste and texture.
